A Dozen Cougar Volleyball Matches to be Televised in 2012
June 20, 2012
2012 Volleyball Schedule PULLMAN - Friends, family and avid volleyball fans around the country will be treated to a dozen broadcasts of Washington State volleyball matches during the 2012 season, all televised by the new Pac-12 Network, the conference announced Wednesday. Seven Cougar volleyball road contests and five home matches will be televised on the Pac-12 Network scheduled to take to the airways in mid-August. Both matches against cross-state rival Washington will be aired with the Sept. 18 match in Seattle being the conference opener for both the Cougars and Huskies. The WSU match at defending national champion UCLA as well as a match against the defending Pac-12 Champion USC will also be televised. "We are thrilled with the amount of television coverage we will have with the new Pac-12 Network this year," WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "It is sensational to see the Pac-12 make such a strong commitment to televise the sport of volleyball. This is a great schedule and we are excited to play 12 matches on TV this fall." The Pac-12, being one of the most competitive conferences in the nation, touted the national champion, UCLA, and six additional teams that earned NCAA Tournament bids last year - Arizona, California, Oregon, Stanford, USC, and Stanford. Three of those teams were seeded in the top 16 nationally - No. 7 USC, No. 9 UCLA, and No. 11 Stanford. USC, the 2011 Pac-12 Conference Champion, joined UCLA in the national semifinals. WSU road matches being televised include Washington (Tues., Sept. 18), Arizona State (Fri., Sept. 21), Colorado (Fri., Oct. 5), Oregon (Fri., Oct. 12), Oregon State (Sun., Oct. 14), UCLA (Fri., Oct. 26), and California (Thurs., Nov. 8). Cougar home matches being aired live on the Pac-12 Network include USC (Sun., Sept. 30), Stanford (Sun., Oct. 21), Colorado (Wed., Oct. 31), Arizona (Wed., Nov. 21), and Washington (Fri., Nov. 23). The Cougar volleyball team opens the 2012 season with four non-conference tournaments: at the Idaho Nike Invitational in nearby Moscow, hosting the Cougar Challenge at Bohler Gym in Pullman Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, and at the Air Force Academy Tournament in Colorado Springs.
