Cougars Fall To No. 1 USC In Three
Nov. 1, 2003 LOS ANGELES - The top-ranked USC Women of Troy defeated the Washington State Cougars 30-16, 30-18, 30-21 in Pacific-10 Conference volleyball action Saturday night at the Lyon Center. The loss drops WSU to 7-17 and 3-10 in the Pac-10 while USC remained undefeated at 22-0 and 13-0 in conference play. Zanda Bautre led WSU with 10 kills while Jennifer Todd added six kills to the Cougars' cause. Three Cougars -- Alison Billingsley, Megan Camp and Melanie Greene -- turned in six digs each. USC's Alicia Robinson recorded a match-high 11 kills while April Ross turned in eight kills and a match-high 14 digs for the Women of Troy. USC hit at a .389 clip for the match including .423 in the first game. Conversely, WSU registered a .034 hitting percentage in the match. For the second consecutive match the Cougars were without the services of their team leader in kills, Kristen Carlson, who sat out with a sore left knee. WSU returns to Bohler Gym for its final homestand of the year against the Oregon schools. The Cougars face Oregon State, Thursday, Nov. 6 and Oregon, Friday, Nov. 7. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
