The game would see ties again at 21, 22, 24 and 25 points before San Jose State laced three straight points for a 28-25 lead. April Lott grabbed a Coug kill and Christensen landed a kill to put the Spartans serving for game point, 29-26. Todd scored on a kill before Senftleben's attack hit the floor for the 30-27 game win.
San Jose State had a 21-10 lead when WSU made the most of an opportunity and went on an 8-2 run, closing the blue and yellow's lead to 23-18. The Spartans' Christensen and Senftleben took turns with kills, advancing the SJSU lead to 28-18. Todd's kill, a Christensen attack error and an ace from Stacey Holbrook forced San Jose State to take a timeout with the score 28-21. Dyana Thompson was called for a lift and added the final point to the Coug's total. Carrie Nash and Christensen landed kills for the final score of SJSU 30, WSU 22.
Just as they did in the Friday night match, the Cougars came alive in the third game, leading until San Jose State tied the game at 21 points. Knotted again at 22 and 23, WSU then out-scored the Spartans 6 to 3, arriving at game point up 29-26. The Cougs gave up the next to attempts at winning this game, first when Martin was called in the net and then as Senftleben landed a kill. Jen Barcus hit one into the back corner for the 30-28 WSU win.
The Cougars fought back in the fourth game to tie the score at 20 and go up 22-20. But the squads traded scores with ties 27, 28 points. Barcus' tip put WSU serving for game but Senftleben knotted it again at 29. A hitting error by Nash found WSU serving for game point a second time and again Senftleben's kill instead tied the game at 30. Kills from Spear and Lott gave the Cougs the 32-30 win.
SJSU took the lead in the fifth game but WSU came back to tie at 8 and again at 9 points. A pair of kills from Senftleben and an attack error by Rosin put the Spartans up 12-9. WSU grabbed two points from an error by Danielle Orong and a block from Barcus. Up by only one, 12-11, the Spartans took a timeout. Coming out of the break, Senftleben's kill and an ace by Christensen put SJSU serving for the match. Barcus' kill stopped the first try but Conrad landed a kill for the 15-12 game win and a 3-2 match win.
WSU has a 5 p.m. rematch with UNLV tonight (Sept. 4). Friday UNLV took a 3-2 match over the Cougs but lost to San Jose State 3-0 in the nightcap.
