DAVIS, Calif. -- Idaho State defeated the Washington State volleyball team 30-21, 30-24, 30-26 in the opening match of the Howard Johnson Aggie Invitational Tournament hosted by UC Davis.

WSU and Idaho State both move to 1-1 overall records.

ISU's Nikki Havens led all players with 20 kills and 16 digs, hit .436 and had four blocks. Felice Yocopis add 15 kills to the Bengals' first win of the season. ISU hit .323 for the match.

Jen Barcus was the lone Cougar with double-figure kills as she landed 14 and a .333 hitting percentage as WSU struggled to a .152 team hitting percentage. April Lott added eight kills, hit .273 and had a pair of blocks. Natalia Owens had four blocks and four kills. Maureen Perez had 32 assists and a team-high 14 digs. Freshman libero Jalen Pendon had her second match with double-figure digs with 11.

"We didn't play very well as a team," Cougar Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. "I felt we were undisciplined on defense and had a very high error percentage as hitters. We came out not ready to play as hard as Idaho State wanted to play and that really cost us. Jen Barcus was able to score in the middle and I felt April Lott played really hard for us especially from an emotional standpoint to get the team going and there were not a lot of people following her lead. We are still very much a work in progress at this point. Back to the drawing board and get ready for the Toledo match."

The Aggie Invite continues Saturday as WSU takes on Toledo at 10 a.m. and host UC Davis at 7 p.m.
