Burdette Greeny joined the Cougar volleyball program in March 2011 as an assistant coach after holding the same title at Lewis-Clark State College for three seasons prior to being promoted to Associate Head Coach in 2010. While Greeny may not have originally envisioned coaching collegiate women's volleyball, his innate competitive nature and passion to see young people develop to their top potential both on and off the court have made him highly successful in this role. "Burdette was an integral part of the success we had at LC State, taking on most of the recruiting responsibilities and bringing in top quality players and people, laying the groundwork for our success," Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "Burdette is very well-respected by high school, club, and college coaches throughout the country." Burdette Greeny, 36, assisted his wife, Jen, at Lewis-Clark State College from 2007-10. His areas of responsibility included coordinating recruiting, strength, conditioning and mental training, academic progress, the V-Club, and on-court skill technique coaching duties. In 2009, Greeny was one of 20 assistant coaches nominated for the NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Greeny's recruiting resume at LCSC included three Junior College First Team All-Americans, one Junior College Second Team All-American, one Gatorade State Player of the Year, two state players of the year, and 12 first team all-state selections. The Lewis-Clark State volleyball players were stellar in the classroom as well with the volleyball team GPA above 3.19 for the nearly every semester Greeny monitored the team's academic progress. During the fall 2009 season, the Warriors posted an astounding 3.59 team GPA with 14 of the 16 players getting above a 3.0, 12 of the 16 getting above a 3.25, six of the 16 getting above a 3.75, and four players garnering a perfect 4.0 GPA. In four years, 37 LCSC players were named to the conference all-academic teams and seven players were selected as NAIA Volleyball National Scholar-Athletes. Greeny was born in Port Angeles, Wash., to Burdette Jr. and Cynthia Greeny, both coaches with his mother a volleyball coach at Port Angeles High School. His sister, Karena, played basketball at the University of Hawai'i. Greeny was an all-league performer in both basketball and baseball at Port Angeles High. The Tacoma News Tribune named Greeny one of the top ten pitchers in the state in 1993. That year he was drafted by the New York Mets in the 32nd round but chose to stay in school and attended Tacoma Community College from 1993 to 1995 where he played on year of basketball and two years of baseball. He earned second-team All-West Region honors both years as a third baseman and also set a school record for striking out 17 batters in a game against Lower Columbia Community College. He pitched for Washington State in 1997, winning the team's award for strength and conditioning. He signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers before the 1998 draft and was with the organization for two seasons. Burdette Greeny earned a degree in humanities with an emphasis in English from WSU in 1999. From 2000 through 2007 he was the head coach in the Pullman American Legion Baseball organization. His teams won two regular season titles, one district title, and made the first appearance by a Pullman team at the state tournament since 1968. In addition, Greeny's Pullman team tallied the first state tournament win in the 60-year history of the program. Of his American Legion players, 88 percent went on to play college baseball. Burdette and Jen Greeny have two young daughters, Lauren and Leah.
