PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the International Tennis Association (ITA) for their academic achievement for the 2009-2010 season. Elisabeth Fournier, Jessica Gomez, Cara Brown and Jackie Owens were also honored by the ITA for their individual academic achievements.

During the 2009-10 season the Cougs earned a 3.47 grade point average as a team. Any team that receives a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA is eligible for this award.

To be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, maintain a 3.5 GPA during the current season, and have been enrolled in their school for at least two semesters.

Fournier, an economic sciences major, earned a 3.90 GPA as a sophomore. This is her second consecutive honor from the ITA. Gomez, a management information systems major maintained a 3.57 GPA during her junior campaign. Gomez was also honored last year as a sophomore.

Owens, who earned a 4.00 GPA as WSU's lone freshman in 2010, is interested in a communication degree. Brown, who is no longer with the Cougs, earned a 4.00 GPA during her freshman year.

The 2009-10 season marks the fourth consecutive year that the Cougar tennis team has been honored by the ITA for their academic achievements.
