PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic achievement during the 2011-2012 season. Additionally, Elisabeth Fournier, Andjela Kankaras, Charlotte Koning, Elizaveta Luzina and Liudmila Vasilieva were also honored by the ITA for their individual academic achievements.

During the 2011-12 season the Cougars earned a 3.31 team grade point average, as the team earned the ITA Academic Award for the sixth consecutive season. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.

To be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, maintain a 3.5 GPA during the current season, and have been enrolled in their school for at least two semesters.

Fournier, an economic sciences major, posted a 3.80 grade point average during the 2011-12 academic year. This was her fourth consecutive honor from the ITA. Kankaras, a rising senior who earned a 3.78 GPA in 2011-12, is pursuing an international business degree at WSU and repeated on the ITA All-Academic team.

Another rising senior, Vasilieva, posted a 3.60 GPA as a finance major in being recognized for the first time in her WSU career. Both Koning and Luzina, who recently completed their first years at WSU, posted GPAs of 3.64 and 3.59, respectively. Neither has yet to declare a major.
