May 22, 2002

STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State senior Erica Perkins (Seattle) and sophomore Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) lost a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 match to Stanford's Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra in the first round of the NCAA Individual Doubles Championships, Wednesday.

Perkins and McKenna, ranked No. 12 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) played even with the nation's top ranked team for two sets before running out of gas in the third set.

The loss ended the season for Perkins and McKenna who combined to set a WSU single season record for doubles victories with 24.

It also marked the end of Perkins' illustrious career as a Cougar. She is the only WSU player to participate in the NCAA Individual Singles Championships, accomplishing the feat three times (1999, 2001, 2002). Her 87 career singles victories are a Cougar record.
