Perkins NCAA Singles Match Suspended By Rain

May 20, 2002

STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State senior Erica Perkins (Seattle) trailed Tulsa's Alicia Pillay 5-3 in the first set of her first round match at the NCAA Tennis Individual Singles Championships when rain suspended play, Monday.

The match will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Should Perkins advance, she would advance to a 1 p.m. second round match against the winner of No. 5 seed Agata Cioroch of Georgia and Florida State's Anca Dumitrescu. Cioroch won the first set 6-2, Monday and the second set had not begun when the rain came.

The weather also affected the NCAA Individual Doubles Championships scheduled to begin Tuesday. Perkins and sophomore Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) will now play Stanford's top ranked duo of Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra, Wednesday at 3 p.m.
