Cougar Duo Prepares for NCAA Championships

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State senior Erica Perkins (Seattle) will make her third appearance in the NCAA Tennis Individual Singles Championships when she takes on Tulsa's Alicia Pillay in a first round match, Monday at 10 a.m.

Perkins hold the Cougar career record with 87 singles victories and is ranked No. 50 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. Pillay is No. 79 in the ITA rankings.

Perkins and sophomore Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) will compete in the Individual Doubles Championships beginning Tuesday. The duo's 25 wins are a WSU single season record.

Perkins and McKenna are No. 12 in the nation and will play top ranked Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra of Stanford, Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Kalvaria and Lastra defeated Perkins and McKenna 8-6, March 28 in the only meeting between the two tandems.

This is the second straight year WSU has sent a singles players and a doubles team to the individual championships. Last year, Perkins earn an invitation in single while McKenna teamed with then senior Ana Maria Moura to become the first doubles team in Cougar history to advance to the individual championships.
