Cougars Wrap Up Season in Ojai

This Week - The No. 50 Washington State Cougars (14-11, 1-7 Pacific-10 Conference) will finish their 2007 regular season at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif...tournament play begins Thursday, April 26 and concludes Sunday, April 29.
Ojai! - Seniors Amy Toth, Marjolein van de Ven and junior Ekaterina Burduli will be participating in the singles championship draw at the Pac-10 Championships...the remaining student-athletes will be placed in the invitational field...in doubles action WSU's Burduli and van de Ven will team up to compete in the championship draw...the other tandems will participate in the invitational draw...the winner of the 32 participant singles field will be automatically entered into the NCAA Singles Championship...the Pac-10 doubles champion will be automatically entered into the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Dual Matches - The Cougars finished the dual match portion of the season with a 14-11 overall record and a 1-7 Pac-10 record and finished eighth in the conference...WSU defeated four nationally-ranked teams, which included a 4-3 win over No. 23 Oregon, which tied the mark for the highest defeat of a ranked opponent during head coach Lisa Hart's four-year tenure...the Cougars posted an impressive 10-3 home record with two of those losses coming against teams ranked in the top 15.
She's the van (de Ven) - Senior Marjolein van de Ven holds a team leading 24-12 record tying last season's win mark, which tied her fifth on the WSU single season victory list...van de Ven defeated UC Santa Barbara's Asagi Onaga, 6-1, 6-2 for her 24th win...the Delft, Netherlands native was the fourth player in school history to record back-to-back 20 win seasons.
Great Toth! - Senior Amy Toth finished her senior dual match season with a 14-10 record...currently Toth has an overall 18-17 record...she has accumulated 76 wins during her four years at WSU...the 76 victories ties her for fourth place with Marcia Senn on the all-time list...if Toth can capture two wins at the Pac-10 Championships she will be the only player in school history to capture three consecutive 20 win seasons.
Double Trouble - Doubles tandem Marjolein van de Ven and Ekaterina Burduli captured their 13th victory of the season against Washington's top doubles duo Ardies/Cor, 9-8...WSU's top doubles team now has 23 career victories, which is good enough for seventh place on WSU's all-time doubles victories list.
Postseason Play? - The NCAA Team Championship will be announced; Tuesday, May 1 at 2:30-3 p.m...the NCAA Singles and
Doubles Championships will be announced, Wednesday, May 2 at 5 p.m.
