No. 30 Cougars to Host Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona

THIS WEEK: The Cougars continue their home stand as they take on the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona Friday, April 6. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. in the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

ABOUT NORTHERN ARIZONA: The Lumberjack's are headed to Pullman after a loss to No. 72 Oregon, 6-1. Northern Arizona boasts a record of 10-7, 5-1 in Big Sky play.

COUGARS TAKE DOWN COLORADO AND No. 40 UTAH: The Cougars hosted two Pac-12 matches this past weekend and came away with two wins. On Friday morning, the Cougars took on Colorado and topped the Buffs at 6-1. Five Cougars came out on top in singles to secure the win and swept all three doubles matches. Against the No. 40 Utah, the Cougars clinched a 5-2 victory. After securing the doubles point, the Cougars won four of the singles matches to take home the win.

COUGARS NATIONALLY RANKED: Jumping 14 spots to No. 30, the Cougars enter the ITA rankings for the third time this season. The Cougars earned a No. 44 national ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association the week of March 27, 2012 and a No. 38 ranking for the week of March 20, 2012.

PRESEASON RANKINGS: Junior Liudmila Vasilieva earned a national ranking of 101 and a Northwest Regional ranking of 17 after finishing the fall season 10-1. Freshman Elizaveta Luzina, garnered a No. 123 national ranking following her first fall season of competition and posted a 9-1 record. Senior Elisabeth Fournier earned a Northwest Region ranking of 20 after finishing 9-2.

COACH HART: Washington State's Lisa Hart is in her ninth season as head coach of the Cougars. Hart is the second coach in Cougars history to surpass 100 wins, as she currently sits at 117. In December, Coach Hart was named the regional winner of the United State Tennis Association and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Sectional Campus and Outreach Award for the Pacific Northwest Section.

COUGARS APPROACHING CAREER RECORDS: Fournier became the school's all-time wins leader Jan. 27 and has extended her total to 100 career wins. Vasilieva has recorded 78 wins, which places her in the top 10 mark in all-time career wins. For singles victories in a season, Fournier and Vasilieva are climbing the list recording 28 wins each thus far. The duo now enters the top 10 for most victories in a single season. In the 2010 season, Googe and Kankaras made the all-time season singles victories list with 23 wins each while Fournier set the record at 31 wins. Vasilieva ended her season at 27 wins, placing her fourth on the list.

FALL SEASON SUCCESS: Entering the 2012 season, eight Cougars finished the fall portion of the schedule with a winning record. In the season opening tournament, seven Cougars captured first place at the Kansas Invitational; senior Fournier, junior Vasilieva, junior AndjelaKankaras, junior KseniaGooge, freshman Luzina, freshman Charlotte Koning and freshman Anastasia Romantsova. In the only home tournament of the fall, three players took first place at the Cougar Classic; Vasilieva, Googe and Luzina. Fournier had a strong showing at the ITA Northwest Regional held at Stanford Oct. 21-25, making it to the fourth round of play.

NEXT UP: The Cougars will return to Pac-12 play and host Oregon Friday, April 13 and Washington Sunday, April 15. Both matches are set to start at 11 a.m. in the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
