No. 38 Cougars Travel to No. 10 California and No. 4 Stanford

ABOUT CALIFORNIA: The ninth-ranked California women's tennis team beat No. 68 Oregon, 7-0 Saturday, March 17. The win was the fifth straight dual victory for the Golden Bears and they now sit 4-0 in Pac-12 play. California boasts five nationally ranked players; No. 6 Jana Juricova, No. 17 Zsofi Susanyi, No. 54 Tayler Davis, No. 66 Anett Schutting, and No. 100 Annie Goransson. The team also has two ranked doubles duos that include No. 27 Schutting and Goransson and No. 25 Juricova and Susanyi.
ABOUT STANFORD: The Cardinals are coming off a 7-0 win against Colorado and Utah, they are now 4-0 in Pac-12 play. Stanford has five national ranked players including No. 4 Nicole Gibbs, No. 5 Mallory Burdette, No. 44 Stacey Tan, No. 52 Ellen Tsay and No. 121 Kristie Ahn. The Cardinals have two doubles teams that sit in the ITA rankings, No. 2 Burdette and Gibbs and No. 35 Tsay and Stacey.
COUGARS UPSET No. 26 ARIZONA AND No. 27ARIZONA STATE: The Cougars swept all six singles matches to upset No. 26 Arizona 6-1. The victory was the first against a ranked team this season until the Cougars beat No. 27 Arizona State 5-2. With two big wins this past weekend, the Cougars improve to 12-4, 2-2 in Pac-12 play, and the victory against the Sun Devils was the school's first in 19 matches.
FOURNIER NAMED PAC-12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Washington State senior Elisabeth Fournier has been named Bank of the West Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week for March 12-18, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday. This marks the second Player of the Week honor for Fournier this season, having also been named for the week of Jan. 23-29.
PRESEASON RANKINGS: Junior Liudmila Vasilieva earned a national ranking of 101 and a Northwest Regional ranking of 17 after finishing the fall season 10-1. Freshman Elizaveta Luzina, garnered a No. 123 national ranking following her first fall season of competition and posted a 9-1 record. Senior Elisabeth Fournier earned a Northwest Region ranking of 20 after finishing 9-2.

COACH HART: Washington State's Lisa Hart is in her ninth season as head coach of the Cougars. Hart is the second coach in Cougars history to surpass 100 wins, as she currently sits at 114. In December, Coach Hart was named the regional winner of the United State Tennis Association and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Sectional Campus and Outreach Award for the Pacific Northwest Section.
COUGARS APPROACHING CAREER RECORDS: Fournier became the school's all-time wins leader Jan. 27 and has extended her total to 100 career wins. Vasilieva has recorded 77 wins, which places her in the top 10 mark in all-time career wins. For singles victories in a season, Fournier and Vasilieva are climbing the list recording 25 and 27 wins, respectively, thus far. The duo now enters the top 10 for most victories in a single season. In the 2010 season, Googe and Kankaras made the all-time season singles victories list with 23 wins each while Fournier set the record at 31 wins. Vasilieva ended her season at 27 wins, placing her fourth on the list.
FALL SEASON SUCCESS: Entering the 2012 season, eight Cougars finished the fall portion of the schedule with a winning record. In the season opening tournament, seven Cougars captured first place at the Kansas Invitational; senior Fournier, junior Vasilieva, junior Andjela Kankaras, junior Ksenia Googe, freshman Luzina, freshman Charlotte Koning and freshman Anastasia Romantsova. In the only home tournament of the fall, three players took first place at the Cougar Classic; Vasilieva, Googe and Luzina. Fournier had a strong showing at the ITA Northwest Regional held at Stanford Oct. 21-25, making it to the fourth round of play.
NEXT UP: The Cougars return to Pullman for a six game homestand beginning Thursday, March 29 when they take on the Portland Pilots. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. in the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
