No. 27 Cougars Host Three Ranked Teams In Spokane

March 5, 2002

The Washington State women's tennis team heads to Spokane for three matches. The Cougars, ranked 27th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings, play at three ranked opponents this weekend. Washington State, 4-2 this season, competes against No. 54 Boise State Friday, No. 12 Washington Saturday and No. 17 Fresno State Sunday.

"We're really coming together," said WSU coach Cari Groce. "Our freshmen are feeling comfortable and winning has helped their confidence. We play some very tough teams this weekend and we need to get ready for some good tennis."

The Cougars are anchored by Erica Perkins, a senior ranked 67th, and Stacy McKenna, a sophomore ranked 34th nationally. Combined they form the No. 11 doubles team, the highest ranking ever for a Cougar doubles team.

The ITA ranked McKenna ninth in the Northwest region. Perkins is ranked 12th, while Lorena Arias is ranked 29th in the region. McKenna and Perkins form the sixth-ranked team in the region. Arias and doubles partner Chris Martinez are ranked 12th. Sophomore Zorana Roganovic and freshman Zsofi Fodor are tied for 14th for this region.

The Cougars next competition will be in Hawaii against Arkansas (March 20), Hawaii (March 21) and Clemson (March 22).
