Cougars Host the University of Portland Saturday

PULLMAN, Wash. - THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's tennis team hosts the University of Portland Saturday at 11 a.m. at the WSU Hollingbery Fieldhouse. ABOUT PORTLAND: The Pilots enter Pullman with a 4-3 record. Portland is coming off a 6-1 victory over Montana State. The Pilots have never defeated the Cougars, with a 0-11 overall record against WSU. LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars performed well in their last outing. WSU opened Saturday competition against Montana. The Cougars had no troubles, sweeping the Grizzlies 7-0 in the opening match. Saturday afternoon, WSU faced Nevada. The score was even at 2-2, with the next match being crucial for both teams. Liudmila Vasilieva was trailing 6-1, 3-1 at the No. 1 position to Nevada's Michelle Okhremchuk. However, Vasilieva rallied back to take the second set and later the match. This put the Cougars ahead 3-2, only needing one win to secure victory for WSU. Junior Olga Musilovich did not keep her teammates waiting, defeating Juliette Legendre 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. WSU was able to escape Nevada, with a 5-2. VASILIEVA REACHES CENTURY MARK: Senior Liudmila Vasilieva won both of her matches over the weekend, increasing her career singles victories to 101. Vasilieva trails former teammate and current leader Elisabeth Fournier, who finished last year with 108 wins. The senior from Yekaterinburg, Russia, is 20-4 this season, including 9-1 in dual matches.
WSU RANKED No. 40: In the most recent poll, the WSU women's tennis team garnered the No. 40 ITA national ranking. This comes after defeating Montana and Nevada last Saturday. WSU is currently 8-2 on the season with their only losses coming against No. 20 Purdue and No. 44 Arkansas. COACH HART: Lisa Hart enters her 10th season as the head coach of Washington State. Hart has accumulated 117 wins over her tenure, recording a 19-7 record along with a trip to the NCAA Championships in the 2011-12 season. Hart was awarded the PAC-12 Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the year award for the 2011-12 season. CLIMBING THE CAREER CHARTS: Senior Liudmila Vasilieva is currently ranked No. 2 on WSU's career singles wins list with 101. Vasilieva needs eight wins to surpass Elisabeth Fournier to become WSU's singles wins list leader. Senior Ksenia Googe is currently No. 5 on the all-time wins list with 86 and senior Andjela Kankaras commands the No. 6 spot with 81 wins. PARKING AT HOLLINGBERY: Fans coming to Cougar Tennis matches this season can park in the Yellow 1 parking lot located directly south of Beasley Coliseum. There will not be any charge for parking on weekends, and daily passes can be purchased for weekday contests. Another option for tennis fans to park would be the Library Garage. The garage costs $3 for the entire day to park on either a Saturday or Sunday.
