Burduli Leads Washington State Past Idaho, Eastern Washington
Jan. 29, 2005 LEWISTON, Idaho --- Freshman Ekaterina Burduli helped Washington State take a pair of matches against regional rivals Saturday, defeating Idaho 5-2 and Eastern Washington 6-1. Burduli teamed with Nora Gaal in doubles play against the Vandals for a 9-8 (7-5) victory over Kareen Konishi and Patricia Ruman, then knocked off UI's Sunel Nieuwoudt in No. 1 singles competition. Burduli also engineered a sweep against Eastern Washington, again teaming with Gaal to down the Eagles' Kasey Knox and Sayaka Yoshimoto 8-0 and Kim Cabiling in singles 6-1, 6-0. The Cougars captured 10 of 12 singles matches on the day. "I was really impressed with our fight in singles play," WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "It was exciting to get all eight players involved and we are looking forward to traveling to Boulder to face Colorado." Washington State faces Colorado Thursday, Feb. 3 in Boulder at 12 p.m. PST.
