THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's tennis team begins the spring season on Jan. 19-20 at the WSU Hollingbery Fieldhouse. WSU will be hosting the Idaho Vandals and the Portland State Vikings Saturday. WSU will wrap up weekend play Sunday when they host the Wyoming Cowgirls.

ABOUT IDAHO, PORTLAND STATE and WYOMING: All three opponents this weekend open their 2013 season at Hollingbery Fieldhouse Saturday. The Idaho Vandals finished the 2011-12 season with a 19-8 record. Junior Almudena Sanz is currently ranked No. 13 for singles in the Mountain region. The pairing of Sanz and junior Victoria Lozano is ranked No. 8 in the region doubles rankings. Portland State, which WSU defeated 7-0 last season, posted a 4-15 record last year. The Wyoming duo of junior Veronic Popovici and senior Simona Synkova are currently ranked No. 52 nationally for doubles. The Cowgirls, who play Eastern Washington Saturday evening in Pullman, finished last season 14-9 and made it to the second round of the Mountain West Championship for the second year in a row.

CLIMBING THE CAREER CHARTS: Senior Liudmila Vasilieva is currently ranked No. 2 on WSU's career singles wins list with 92. Vasilieva needs 17 wins to surpass Elisabeth Fournier to become WSU's singles wins list leader. Senior Ksenia Googe is currently tied for No. 6 on the all-time wins list with 79 and senior Andjela Kankaras needs one more victory to surpass Narelle Hall for the No. 10 spot.

WSU RANKED No. 32: In the most recent polls, the WSU women's tennis team garnered the No. 32 ITA national ranking. This is the same ranking that the Cougars finished with at the end of the 2011-2012 season, finishing the season with a 19-7 record.

FALL RECAP: Five Cougars enter the 2013 spring season with winning records. Vasilieva dominated during the fall season, capturing both the Cougar Classic and Air Force Invitational titles. Sophomore's Charlotte Koning and Elizaveta Luzina finished 8-3 and 7-4 respectively, and reached the semifinals at the Air Force Invitational. Kankaras finished the fall with an 8-3 record, reaching the semifinals of the Air Force Invitational and the finals of the Cougar Classic. Googe concluded the fall with a 7-3 record, reaching the semifinals of the Cougar Classic and the Air Force Invitational.

REGIONAL RANKINGS: Vasilieva garnered the No. 13 regional ranking while the pairing of Kankaras and Googe received the No. 10 regional ranking for doubles teams.

COACH HART: Lisa Hart enters her 10th season as the head coach of Washington State. Hart has accumulated 109 wins over her tenure, recording a 19-7 record along with a trip to the NCAA Championships in the 2011-12 season. Hart was awarded the PAC-12 Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the year award for the 2011-12 season.

PARKING AT HOLLINGBERY: Tennis fans coming to this weekend's matches can park in the Yellow 1 parking lot located directly south of Beasley Coliseum. There will not be any charge for parking on Saturday or Sunday. Another option for tennis fans to park would be the Library Garage. This would provide covered parking, but would be a longer walk to Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The garage costs $3 for the entire day to park on either a Saturday or Sunday. Those parking in this lot would also need to affix the sticker to their windshield.
