CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Washington State women's tennis team captured two doubles victories and a singles win Saturday, to end the second day of competition at the University of North Carolina Kitty Harrison Invitational.

In singles competition the Cougars faced Winthrop. Playing in the No. 3 position, senior Orsolya Sallai caputured her seventh win this season by defeating the Eagles' Renata Caceres, 6-7, 7-5, (10-7) in a third set 10-point tie-breaker.

All other Cougar singles players drew their matches to three sets as well, all using the 10-point tie-breaker. Senior Nora Gaal was defeated by Ana Paula Novaes in the No. 1 position 3-6, 6-4, (10-4). In the No. 2 slot, Amy Toth fell to Danielle Moita, 6-4, 5-7, (10-4). Chris Martinez was put down by Paula Takahashi, 5-7, 6-1, (10-4) to round out Cougar play in the No. 4 position.

"The team fought really hard in singles, even though we didn't get the results we were looking for," WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "I'm really happy with our effort today."

The Cougar doubles teams swept Minnesota and went on to lose to Wake Forest. Against Minnesota Martinez/Sallai knocked off Nischela Reddy/Ida Malmberg 8-5 and Gaal/Toth put down Marina Bugaenco/Danielle Mousseau, also by a score of 8-5.
