STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Liudmila Vasilieva saw her tournament come to an end in the Round of 16 after nearly three hours of play Saturday at the 2012 ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

Vasilieva began the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sacramento State's Sophie Lohscheidt before facing Tayler Davis of California, the No. 10 seed. After Davis raced to a 6-1 win in the first set, the two players went back and forth in the second. At 4-4 with Vasilieva serving, the two played a near 25-minute game in which both players had chances to take the lead. In the end Davis gained the service break for the 5-4 lead. In the final game Vasilieva held off four match points before Davis secured the 6-1, 6-4 win after two hours, 40 minutes.

Sophomore Elizaveta Luzina, also playing in the main draw, fell to No.12 Klara Fabikova of Cal 7-5, 6-3 in the Round of 32. Fabikova entered the event as the No. 2-ranked freshman in the country.

The Cougar women performed well in the consolation round as junior Olga Musilovich earned a three set victory against Julija Lukac of Washington 6-3, 3-6, 1-0, winning a 10-point tiebreaker in place of the third set. Senior Andjela Kankaras defeated Laura Posylkin of California 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 and sophomore Charlotte Koning won in straight sets against Lena Macomson of Oregon 6-1, 6-3.

Senior Erin Troedson fell to Chrissy Uriarte of Easter Washington 6-4, 7-5 in her consolation match and freshman Lize Leenknecht had similar results against Lize Searl of Saint Mary's, falling 6-4, 3-6, 1-0.

In doubles action all three teams struggled as Kankaras and Koning were defeated by Megan Heneghan and Layla Sanders of UC Davis 8-4. Luzina and Troedson fell to the pairing of Anjela Nemcevic and Riko Shimizu of Washington 8-4 while Vasilieva and Leenknecht dropped an 8-5 contest to Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge of Santa Clara.

The Cougars conclude play at the ITA Northwest Regional Sunday morning.
