Singles Play Highlights Day Two at Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Washington State women's tennis team went three for three in their respective singles brackets to highlight second-day play at the Air Force Invitational Saturday.
In the flight two singles bracket, Andjela Kankaras advanced to the semifinals after defeating Julyette Steur of Colorado 3-6, 7-5, 10-8. Ksenia Googe moved on to a semifinal match in the third flight after defeating Silviya Zhelyazkova of Wyoming 6-3, 6-2. Charlotte Koning wrapped up singles play for the Cougars in the sixth flight by defeating Mary Meyers of Air Force 6-1, 6-2. Koning will be playing in the championship match of the sixth flight against Alma Espinosa of Wyoming Sunday.
In the first flight of the consolation doubles bracket, Liudmila Vasilieva and Googe captured two victories after defeating the pairing of Elizabeth Tapia and Stephanie Catlin of UNC, 8-3, and Sema Nevoca and Alexandra Kovacs of Wyoming 8-2. Kankaras and Elizaveta Luzina of Washington State won their only match in the second flight after defeating Adrianna Wojakowska and Mollie Cooper of Colorado State 8-2.
Koning and Lize Leenknecht fell to the Air Force pairing of Tiffany Tran and Mary Meyers, 8-5, followed by a loss to Michelle Garpenlov and Emma Isberg of Denver 8-5 for third place. Erin Troedson of Washington State and Misia Kedzierski of Illinois defeated Tracy Haws-Lay and Ffion Davies of South Dakota 8-1 in their only match of the day.
Play concludes at the Air Force Invitational Sunday with the Cougars playing in four semifinals and one championship match.
