Cougar senior plays Wednesday morning in the consolation bracket

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Washington State senior Liudmila Vasilieva dropped her opening match to Caroline Price of North Carolina in the first round of qualifying at the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Tuesday morning.

Price, ranked 71 nationally, defeated No. 33 Vasilieva 6-2, 6-4 during first round play. After dropping the first set, Vasilieva had three break points early in the second that would have given her a 2-1 lead. She could not capitalize, however, as Price held serve en route to the straight-set win.

In the consolation round, Vasilieva, who entered the event as the tournament's No. 7 seed, defeated Kansas State's Karla Bonacic, ranked 69 nationally, 6-2, 6-4.

The Cougar senior continues her tournament Wednesday morning with a second round consolation match.
