PULLMAN, Wash. - Senior Chris Martinez knocked off team mate Orsolya Sallai, 6-3, 7-5, to clench the No. 2 singles championship on the last day of the Cougar Classic women's tennis tournament Sunday.
Martinez remains the only undefeated Cougar in singles play.
"Chris played great tennis this weekend," said Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart. "We look forward to seeing great things from her the rest of the season."
Senior Nora Gaal fell to Idaho's Sunel Nieuwoudt in the No. 1 singles championship by a score of 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles competition Sallai/Martinez enjoyed two victories by default and an 8-3 semifinal win over Idaho's Mariel Tinnirello/Tara Fielding before advancing to the championship where they were defeated by Idaho tandem Sunel Nieuwoudt/Jessica Hubbard, 8-4.
