Singles Competition Runs Smoothly for Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. - Three Cougars advanced to the championship round in singles and Zsofia Fodor captured the Championship in No. 3 singles during day two of the Cougar Classic women's tennis tournament Saturday. Fodor put down Idaho's Efrat Leopold 6-4, 6-0 to capture the championship in No. 3 singles and her third straight win on the season. "I am proud of the way Zsofia dominated on the court today," said Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart. Three other Cougar singles competitors remain undefeated as well. In No. 1 singles Nora Gaal defeated Jessica Hubbard of Idaho, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the championship which will be played Sunday at 9 a.m. Competing in No. 2 singles, Orsolya Sallai knocked off Idaho's Kareen Konishi 6-0, 6-2. Sallai will square off against fellow Cougar Chris Martinez for the championship Sunday at 9 a.m. Martinez handed Montana State's Remy Clark a straight set loss, 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the championship. Sophomore Amy Toth recorded the only Cougar loss of the day as she fell to Idaho's Sunel Nieuwoudt, 6-4, 6-0. Due to weather and changes in travel plans for participating teams there are no doubles results at this time.
