LOS ANGELES - No. 7 UCLA, 1-0, won five of six singles matches and two doubles matches to pull out a 7-2 win over visiting No. 50 ranked Washington State University, 0-1, at the Los Angles Tennis Center earlier today.
The Bruins' Kati Koesis set the tone for the UCLA win by downing WSU's Tunde Nagy 6-1, 6-3 in the opening singles matches.
The Cougar win in singles came from Andrea Reisz playing the No. 2 position. Reisz and Elizabeth Schmidt were battling in the third set when Schmidt rolled her ankle during the first game of the third set and was forced to retire.
UCLA's Annica Cooper and Koesis combinded for a 8-2 over Reisz/Nagy in opening double competition.
Narelle Hall and Bindi Thomas combined for a win in the number two doubles competition, 8-2.
WSU returns to action tomorrow, playing No. 15 USC, at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium on the USC campus.
