PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team returned home from Seattle today after four days of tough competition in the Pac-10 Indoor Championships.
The tournament, which featured participants from both the North and South Divisions, was held at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on the University of Washington campus.
WSU's Helen Frankland, in flight two singles competition, lost in the first round and the quarterfinal round, respectively, of consolation play. Bindi Thomas lost in the flight two singles competition first round to No. 3 Annica Cooper of UCLA, 6-3, 6-0. Cooper eventually won the flight two singles competition.
In flight three singles competition, Carolina Ferrandez lost in the first round and the first round of the consolation play. Melissa Pine, in flight three singles competition, lost in the first round 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to No. 2 seeded Emeka Mayes of California.
Tunde Nagy, in flight one singles competition, retired after a 5-5 score in the first set.
Both doubles team lost their quarterfinal matches.
The women's tennis team travels to Southern California this week to start Pac-10 outdoor competition. The Cougars will take on UCLA, Friday, Jan. 24 and USC, Saturday, Jan. 25.
