Cougars swept by Huskies

SEATTLE -- Washington State's tennis team ended its regular season with a 7-0 loss at Washington, Saturday.

The loss dropped No. 52 WSU to 7-13, 0-8 Pacific-10. The No. 6 Huskies improved to 17-3, 6-2.

The Huskies' top tandem of Claire Carter and Darija Klaic, ranked 13th nationally, led Washington's sweep in doubles play with an 8-4 win over Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez.

Colleen Gray and Dea Sumantri defeated Orsolya Sallai and Annabel Stephanchuk, 8-5 at No. 2 doubles while Erin Boisclair and Erin Hoe teamed to down Nora Gaal and Zsofi Fodor, 8-4 at No.3 doubles.

Washington won all six singles matches in straight sets, including a pair that featured ranked players for both schools.

At No. 1 singles, 37th-ranked Sumantri defeated No. 113 Sallai, 6-1, 6-4. Carter, ranked 47th nationally, was victorious over No. 111 Arias, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

The best singles match of the day was at No. 4 where Boisclair defeated Stephanchuck. After easily winning in the first set, Boisclair pulled out a win in a second set tiebreaker for a 6-2, 7-6 victory.

Washington State travels to Ojai, Calif., to take part in the Pacific-10 Tournament, April 24-27.
