No. 15 UCLA Tennis Knocks Off No. 46 Cougars, 4-1.
April 11, 2003
LEWISTON, Idaho -- The No. 46 Washington State tennis team lost to the No. 15 UCLA Bruins 4-1, Friday at the Lewis Clark State College Tennis Center. The Cougars (7-11, 0-6 Pacific-10), led by No. 1 doubles tandem Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez, won all three doubles matches and earned the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. But UCLA rallied in singles action, winning on courts one though four and taking a 4-1 victory. Two WSU doubles tandems, Lorena Arias/Chris Martinez and Zsofi Fodor/Nora Gaal, have won 17 doubles matches this season, which ties them for sixth on the WSU single-season list. Last season, Erica Perkins and Stacy McKenna set the Cougar record with 24 victories. WSU will host No. 2 USC (Saturday April 12 at noon) next. The match will probably be played at the Stadium Way Tennis Center, but poor weather could force the matches indoors to Lewiston, Idaho. Results: No. 15 UCLA def. No. 15 WSU 4-1
