Cougar Tennis Blanked By Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 68 Washington State women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 27 Arizona State Friday. The Cougars (9-11, 0-5 Pac-10) failed to win a singles or doubles match for only the second time this season.

"We are not satisfied with our level of play today," Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "We are looking forward to rebounding tomorrow against Arizona."

The Cougars faced two ranked doubles teams. At the No. 1 position Chris Martinez/Orsolya Sallai were put down by No. 20 Lauren Colalillo/Kady Pooler 8-1. At the No. 2 doubles slot Ekaterina Burduli/Nora Gaal fell to No. 59 Jessica Leitch/Sabrina Capannolo 8-5. Amy Toth/Aleksandra Stefanova lost 8-1 against Joslynn Burkett/ Rebecca Rankin 8-1.

Singles play did not go any smoother for the Cougars. In the No. 1 spot, No. 71 Ekaterina Burduli was pounced by Capannolo 6-4, 6-4.

The Cougars will return to action Saturday against the No. 50 Arizona Wildcats. Match time is set for noon in Tucson.
