No. 54 San Diego Outlasts Washington State, 5-2

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team played in its first outdoor home match of the season against No. 54 San Diego, Sunday. The Toreros slipped past the Cougars earning a, 5-2, victory in Pullman.
San Diego jumped out to the early lead by earning victories at each doubles slot, grabbing the opening point.
Aleksandra Cekic and Ekaterina Kamendova fell to Juliette Coupez and Milou Teeling at the No. 1 slot, 8-5. Elisabeth Fournier and Jessica Gomez battled back and forth with San Diego's Justine Perl and Marite Raygada before falling, 8-4.
In singles action, Kamendova went up against Coupez at the No. 1 position. Coupez was able to outlast the WSU sophomore earning the victory, 6-1, 6-3.
Picking up the first victory for the Cougars was Ioana Oprea by downing Milou Teeling in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Earning the second victory for the Cougars at the No. 2 position was Cekic, when she defeated Maja Sujica, who retired when Cekic was leading, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0.
Fournier suffered a tough loss after losing a long two-set match against Tammy Keveny, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
The Cougars will return to action Thursday April 9, when they host UC Santa Barbara and Eastern Washington.
