No. 46 WSU Tennis Falls To No. 2 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif.- The No. 46 Washington State women's tennis team lost 7-0 to the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The second-ranked Cardinal did not drop a set en route to a 7-0 sweep of visiting Washington State. The Cardinal improve to 13-1 and 3-0 in the Pac-10, while the Cougars fall to 7-6, 0-2 in league play. One highlight for the Cougars was the doubles play of Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez. The Cougar duo challenged Stanford's second-ranked duo of Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette, but fell 9-8. Stanford won all six singles matches for the third consecutive match. Amber Liu picked up the first win at No. 1, beating Orsolya Sallai 6-2, 6-1. Burdette followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the third spot and Alice Barnes captured the match for the Cardinal with a 6-0, 6-3 win. The Cougars next competition will be at No. 3 California Saturday, March 29. The match starts at noon.
