PULLMAN, Wash. - The No. 73 Washington State women's tennis team was sunk 4-2 by No. 14 Washington in a singles only match Sunday. Cougar Freshman Ekaterina Burduli shined for WSU as she knocked off No. 6 Dea Sumantri in the No. 1 doubles position 7-5, 6-1. The last time Burduli defeated a ranked opponent was February 5 when she put down No. 103 Meg Racette of Iowa 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.

The Cougars moved their record to 7-10 overall on the season while the Huskies sit at 11-5 overall.

Senior Chris Martinez also nailed down a win. At the No. 3 singles slot she handed a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Mugette Ahn. Martinez has collected 14 wins on the season which is one more than her total from 2003-04.

In the No. 2 position Orsolya Sallai was put down by No. 34 Dinka Hadzic 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. It also took three sets for Nora Gaal to be put away by Saskia Nauenberg 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot.

"We have truly made strides as a team this season," Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "Ekaterina's win is so great for our program and the team's effort was phenomenal."
