No. 30 Boise State Narrowly Defeats Washington State, 4-3

PULLMAN, Wash. -The Cougars comeback fell just short, as Boise State was able to outlast Washington State earning a slim victory, 4-3, Wednesday, at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
The Broncos gained a 1-0 advantage after sweeping the doubles matches earning the opening point.
At No. 1 doubles, the WSU tandem of Ekaterina Kamendova and Elisabeth Fournier competed against Boise State's Lauren Megale and Pichittra Thongdach. The Broncos jumped out to the early lead, but the Cougars battle back making it close at, 3-2. Megale and Thongdach then started to pull away earning the victory, 8-2.
In singles play, Boise State jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Cougars earned a victory at the No. 3 slot. Fournier was able to fend off Bianca Jochimsen in straight sets earning the victory 6-3, 6-1. The Cougar freshman now has a team-high 14 wins on the season.
Closing the gap to 3-2, Marina Nicolas earned a straight set victory over Laura Baum, 6-2, 6-1. With the victory, Nicolas has recorded 11 victories on the year which is second on the team.
Boise State clinched the match when Rocio Frej defeated Jessica Gomez, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 6 slot.
In a match that lasted just under three hours, Oprea and Wlodarczyk battled at the No. 4 slot. Wlodarczyk won the first set, but Oprea battled back winning the next two earning the victory 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Cougars will return to the court Friday March 13, when No. 57 Oregon comes to Pullman, at 11 a.m.
