WSU Tennis Defeats San Diego 6-1

SAN DIEGO, Calif -- The No. 41 Washington State women's tennis team dominated the University of San Diego for a 6-1 victory, Sunday.

The Cougars (7-4) lost the doubles point but rallied to win all six singles matches. At No. 1 singles, WSU sophomore Orsolya Sallai notched her team-leading 18th singles victory of the season as she beat Emma Murphy, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 2 singles, WSU's Lorena Arias defeated San Diego's Karen Pearl, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, WSU's Chris Martinez knocked off Tara Livesay, 6-7, 6-3. Other Cougar winners were Nora Gaal (No. 4 singles), Annabel Stefanchuk (No. 5 singles) and Zorana Roganovic (No. 6 singles).

"We played excellent tennis today," said WSU Tennis Coach Cari Groce. "We played singles with an emphasis to finish up matches and play strong. The team wanted to win badly, and I'm real proud of them today."

The Cougars beat San Diego for just the second time in six all-time meetings between the two schools.

WSU hosts No. 36 Oregon this Sunday (March 16). The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. indoors in Lewiston, Idaho.
