SEATTLE, Wash. - The No. 59 Washington State Tennis team faced two nationally-ranked singles opponents and one nationally-ranked doubles pair as they fell to the No. 8 Washington Huskies, 5-2, Sunday at Nordstrom Tennis Center, Seattle.

The No. 19 doubles pair in the country, Claire Carter/Dea Sumantri, knocked off Cougar duo Lorena Arias/Zsofia Fodor, 8-0. This loss is only the second by the new Cougar pair who have played together in six matches.

Washington State went on to capture the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Cougars Chris Martinez/Orsolya Sallai put down Dinka Hadzic/Erin Hoe, 8-6 and Nora Gaal/Amy Toth captured their sixth doubles win on the season by defeating UW's Monika Kolbovic/Saskia Nauenberg, 8-3.

Nationally-ranked Husky, No. 23 Dea Sumantri, defeated Arias in the No. 1 singles position, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 singles Sallai was overcome by nationally-ranked No. 25 Claire Carter, 6-2, 6-0.

The lone Cougar capturing a win against the Huskies was freshman Amy Toth who put down Stephanie Svanfeldt, in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

"I am proud of the way we put ourselves in a position to win by capturing the doubles point," Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "We look forward to playing them again in April at home."

The Cougars will continue their play against ranked opponents as they head to Eugene to take on the No. 23 Oregon Ducks Saturday, March 13.
