Washington State Tennis Falls to No. 67 San Diego

SEATTLE, Wash. - The No. 59 Washington State Cougars captured three singles wins in their 4-3 loss to the San Diego Toreros Saturday at Nordstrom Tennis Center, Seattle. In doubles play Cougar pair Lorena Arias/Zsofia Fodor played in the No. 1 position and put down Lena Baensch/Jennifer Brown, 8-4. The No. 2 Cougar duo of Chris Martinez/Orsolya Sallai were defeated by Lauren Perl/Lauren Kazarian, 8-4. Cougars Amy Toth/Nora Gaal lost to Emma Murphy/Tara Livesay, 8-6, in No. 3 doubles. In singles action Arias took the No. 1 slot and was overcome by nationally-ranked No. 90 Perl, 6-3, 6-3. Washington State junior Sallai faced nationally-ranked No. 42 Emma Murphy and lost, 7-6, 6-4. In her second match at No. 3 Nora Gaal knocked off the Torero's Livesay, 6-3, 7-6. The Szekesferver, Hungary, native improved her season win total to 13. Martinez posted her first win in her last six matches by defeating Jenny Brown, 6-2, 7-6, in the No. 4 position while Fodor lost her first match in her last seven matches to Lena Baensch, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 5 position. In the No. 6 slot freshman Toth beat Kazarian, 7-6, 6-3. "This was a tough loss," Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "We just need to take things one match at a time and we're excited to play UW tomorrow." The Cougars will square-off against the No. 8 nationally-ranked Washington Huskies beginning at Noon Sunday.
