Cougars Edge No. 49 BYU in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Idaho -- The No. 42 Washington State tennis team beat another ranked opponent as the Cougars edged No. 49 Brigham Young University 4-3, Friday.

The No. 42 Cougars (6-2) lost the doubles point but rallied by winning four of six singles matches. At No. 1 singles, WSU sophomore Orsolya Sallai beat Dominique Reynolds, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Cougar junior Lorena Arias beat Liza Klempner 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Other singles winners were Nora Gaal (No. 4 singles) and Annabel Stefanchuk (No. 5 singles).

Washington State has now defeated three nationally ranked opponents. Aside from BYU, WSU beat No. 65 New Mexico (Feb. 15) and No. 58 Boise State (Feb. 16).

WSU's Gaal teamed up with Zsofi Fodor for a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles over BYU's Hadley MacFarlane and Nicole Schneider.

The Cougars host No. 20 Washington Sunday March 2 at 1 p.m. The match will be played indoors at the LCSC tennis center in Lewiston, Idaho.
