Cougars Come Up Short Against Oregon

LEWISTON, Idaho- The Cougars' three singles victories were not enough as No. 42 Oregon captured the doubles point and three singles match points in their 4-3 victory over Washington State Friday in Lewiston.
The Ducks' nationally-ranked No. 18 pair Courtney Nagle/Daria Panova defeated Cougar duo Lorena Arias/Chris Martinez, 8-1.
In the No. 2 doubles slot the first-time Cougar tandem Zsofia Fodor/Orsolya Sallai found success by knocking off Dominika Dieskova/Anna Leksinska, 9-7.
Cougars Amy Toth/Nora Gaal fell to Davina Mendiburu/Ester Bak, 8-5.
In singles action, Sallai was defeated by nationally-ranked No. 8 Daria Panova, 6-2, 6-0.
In the No. 2 singles slot Arias put down Oregon's Dieskova, 7-6, 6-1. The Mexico City, Mexico native now has 16 wins on the season, matching her win total from 2003.
In No. 5 singles play Toth captured her second win in the dual match season against Jamie Marshall, 6-2, 6-4.
Fodor found more success in singles by putting down Leksinska, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0. The Pecs, Hungary native improved her singles record to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in dual match play.
"I am really proud of the way Zsofi played," Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "She showed a lot of desire in winning both matches."
In the No. 3 and 4 singles positions Martinez fell to preseason-ranked No. 35 Nagle, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Gaal fell to Mendiburu, 6-0, 6-2.
"Credit Oregon, the Ducks are a great team," Coach Hart said. "We will look to rebound next week in the UNLV Invitational."
The nationally-ranked No. 50 Cougars will head to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational Feb. 27-29.
