TUCSON, Ariz. - Senior Marjolein van de Ven remained perfect in dual match play with a straight-set victory over Kasia Jakowlew, 6-3, 7-5, but it wasn't enough as the No. 48 Arizona Wildcats (4-3 overall, 1-0 Pac-10) opened Pacific-10 play with a 6-1 victory over the 56th ranked Washington State Cougars (8-2 overall, 0-1 Pac-10), Friday afternoon, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

Arizona began singles play with a 1-0 advantage after capturing the doubles point. The Wildcats pair of Danielle Steinberg and Camelia Todorova deafeated WSU's Ashley Spicer and Amy Toth, 8-1. WSU would pull even at one, after Ekaterina Burduli and Marjolein van de Ven cruised past Kasia Jakowlew and Natalia Toporowska, 8-3.

The Wildcats secured the doubles point after Juliette Mavroleon and Katie Orletsky downed the Cougars tandem of Aleksandra Cekic and Aleksandra Stefanova, 8-5.

The Cougars only victory came in the No. 3 slot after the van de Ven victory over Jakowlew. The Delft, Netherlands native, van de Ven, improved to 10-0 in dual matches and continued with her team-leading 17-4 overall record.

In the No. 4 slot, Cekic split sets with Toporowska, but fell in the super tiebreaker to lose the match, 6-7, 6-2, 10-8. Spicer followed in a similar path in the No. 6 slot after splitting sets and falling in the super tiebreaker, 5-7, 7-5, 10-2.

WSU will try to even their Pac-10 record as they travel to Tempe, Ariz., to play against the 24th ranked Sun Devils of Arizona State, Saturday, Feb. 17 at noon.
