BLACKSBURG, Va. - Washington State swept three doubles and six singles matches and crushed Radford University 7-0, at Virginia Tech Friday to record the Cougars' first dual match victory.

The Cougars lost only six games of the nine matches they played.

In the No. 1 singles position Chris Martinez captured her eighth win of the season against Daniela Milano with a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Junior Nora Gaal locked down her eighth win of the season flawlessly, by defeating Christina Glas, 6-0, 6-0.

Amy Toth found success against Caroline Downs in the No. 3 singles slot, and put the Highlander away with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Cougar Zsofia Fodor was too much for Ashley Garrard in a 6-0, 6-0 route, improving her season record to 9-4.

Senior Zorana Roganovic and freshman Nelly Dvornicka both notched 6-0, 6-0 finishes against Jessica Nixon and Amy Costello, respectively.

In doubles competition, regionally-ranked No. 9 duo Lorena Arias/Martinez captured win number eight on the season as they were near perfect in defeating Milano/Downs, 8-1.

Cougar tandem Dvornicka/Fodor recorded an 8-0 win over Glas/Garrard. In five matches together Dvornicka/Fodor have recorded only one loss.

Radford's Nixon/Costello could not post numbers as Cougars Toth/Gaal posted an 8-0 victory.

"I'm really proud of the team's effort. We showed great intensity and focus," Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "We have to carry that into our match against nationally-ranked Virginia Tech."

The Cougars, No. 50, will face No. 69 Virginia Tech Saturday with matches beginning at 3 p.m. PT.
