Gaal Wins, Cougar Tennis Loses at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 75 Washington State women's tennis team was put down by the No. 25 Oregon Ducks, 6-1 Friday. The Ducks boasted two ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. The match was not a Pac-10 match, when the Cougars play Oregon again on Sunday, April 17 the match will be counted in Pac-10 play. The lone victory for the Cougars was captured by senior Nora Gaal who defeated Jamie Marshall after she retired, 6-3, 2-6, 1-3. The win puts Gaal's victory total at nine on the season and also moves her up to seventh on the Cougar all-time career singles victories list. "We're really proud of Nora's effort so far this season," Washington State head coach Lisa Hart said. "She's been a great competitor for us." In doubles play Cougars Ekaterina Burduli/Nora Gaal fell to the No. 45 tandem of Dominika Dieskova/Daria Panova. The two Duck players proved to be just as tough in singles competition. The No. 31 ranked Panova put down Burduli, 7-6, 6-1 and the No. 34 ranked Dieskova knocked off senior Orsolya Sallai, 6-3, 6-0. Next week the Cougars will take a tour of the Golden State by facing the Santa Clara Broncos Thursday, the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal Friday, and the No.16 California Bears Saturday.
