Cougars Sweep Eagles To Finish Weekend Play

The Cougars concluded weekend play with a 7-0 win over Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse. WSU only lost one match over the course of the weekend.
In doubles action, Ksenia Googe and Olga Musilovich led the charge at No. 2 for WSU, cruising by Chrissy Uriarte and Chelsea Patton of Eastern Washington 8-1. Liudmila Vasilieva and Elizaveta Luzina followed at No. 1, taking down the pairing of Moira Hedberg and Kelsey Knight 8-2. Andjela Kankaras and Lize Leenknecht did not finish their match against Rocio Norena and Alexis Filliol since the doubles point had already been decided.
In singles play, Googe started the scoring for the Cougars at No. 2, sweeping Patton 6-0, 6-0 to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. At No. 4, Musilovich defeated Knight, 6-2, 6-2, increasing her dual-match winning streak to eight and extending the Cougar lead to 3-0.
Kankaras ensured Cougar victory after defeating Uriarte 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3. With that win, Kankaras moves into a tie for sixth on WSU's all-time career victories list with 79. In a close match at No. 1, Vasilieva was able to close out the contest strong, defeating Hedberg 6-3, 7-6(7-2).
At No. 5, Koning only dropped one game, defeating Norena 6-0, 6-1 to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead. At No. 6, Dajana Ognjenovic closed out play for WSU with a win against Filliol 6-4, 6-2. This was Ognjenovic's first win as a Cougar.
The Cougars are next in action Saturday, Feb. 16 when they host Montana and Nevada at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
