Cougars Roll Past No. 58 Sacramento State

Washington State broke a four-match skid against Sacramento State by posting a 7-0 victory over the Hornets Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. With the win, the Cougars improved to 4-2 on the season while the Hornets fell to 0-3. Doubles play started the day and the Cougars captured the first two matches for the opening point. At No. 2 WSU's duo of Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe trailed 3-2 before reeling off the final six games for an 8-3 victory over Katharina Knoebl and Jennifer Nguyen. At No. 1, the Cougar pair of Liudmila Vasilieva and Elizaveta Luzina jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Rebeca Delgado and Sophie Lohscheidt, before dropping the next four games. The pair then won the final two games for an 8-4 victory, clinching the doubles point. At No. 3 the Cougars' Olga Musilovich and Charlotte Koning led 7-5, 40-15 over Olivia Boija and Saskia Angerer when play was stop once the doubles point was decided. In singles action, Googe increased the WSU lead to 2-0 as she defeated Knoebl 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Following a quick first set, Kankaras rallied from behind to post a 6-1, 7-6 win over Lohscheidt at No. 3 singles. Musilovich clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Siobhan Ryan-Bovey. It marked the sixth-straight win for Musilovich to open the dual match season. At No. 1 Vasilieva needed three sets to defeat Delgado, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, giving Vasilieva her team-leading 16th win of the season. Luzina followed that with a three-set win of her own, defeating Nguyen 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 4. The final match of the day saw Koning post a 6-0, 6-2 win over Boija at No. 6.
The Cougars continue their homestand Saturday with a pair of matches. They host Gonzaga at 11 a.m. and then Eastern Washington at 4 p.m. WASHINGTON STATE TENNIS
