Lewiston, Idaho.-- The No. 40 WSU women's tennis team won its third consecutive match with a 6-1 victory over the Long Beach State 49ers Saturday.
WSU (3-1) earned the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 singles, Washington State's 45th ranked Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez beat Laura Thomas and Megan Biorkman, 8-5. Zorana Roganovic and Orsolya Sallai knocked off Alanah Carroll and Kelly Chan, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. Cougars Nora Gaal and Zsofi Fodor took care of business at No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 victory over Lindsey Marvel and Claudia Argumendo.
Five Cougars won their respective singles matches to give WSU the victory. At No. 1 singles, No. 77 Arias beat Thomas 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Sallai, a sophomore at WSU, outlasted Marvel 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
"We got off to a slow start yesterday against Hawaii, and we wanted to come out today and go after this team," said WSU Tennis Coach Cari Groce. "I'm pleased with today's play. Long Beach is a good team. We showed a lot of composure and played great tennis today. Orsolya Sallai played outstanding today."
WSU will head to Boise for two matches next weekend. The Cougars will play No. 57 Boise State (Saturday at 10:00 a.m.) and No. 64 New Mexico (Sunday at 10:00 a.m.). Both matches will be played in Boise, Idaho.
