Cougar Tennis Sweeps Hawaii

Lewiston, Idaho.-- The No. 40 WSU women's tennis team won its first home match of the season in dominating fashion with a 7-0 victory over the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Friday.

All six Cougars won their respective singles matches to give WSU the victory as Hawaii did not win a set against the Cougars. At No. 1 singles, No. 77 Lorena Arias beat Lauren Fitzgerald 6-4, 7-6. Orsolya Sallai outlasted Stacy Hakikawa 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

WSU earned the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 singles, Washington State's 45th ranked Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez beat Hawaii's Justine Boutet and Hakikawa, 8-2. Nora Gaal and Zsofi Fodor took care of business at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 victory over Hawaii's Mio Fukushima and Polina Kravets.

The Cougars are now 2-1 overall. WSU has won six of seven matches against the Rainbow Wahine.

WSU will head to Boise for two matches next weekend. The Cougars will play No. 57 Boise State (Saturday at 10:00 a.m.) and No. 64 New Mexico (Sunday at 10:00 a.m.). Both matches will be played in Boise, Idaho.
