Cougars Defeat Eastern Washington, 7-0

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State University women's tennis team defeated Eastern Washington 7-0, Friday at the Simmelink Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Improving to 7-0 early in the season, the Cougars started off strong with a sweep in all three doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Andjela Kankaras and Elisabeth Fournier defeated Ryann Warner and Rocio Norena 8-1 while Charlotte Koning and Olga Musilovich clinched the doubles point soon after with a 8-3 win at No. 3 over Chelsea Patton and Brittany Ellingsen. Liudmila Vasilieva and Elizaveta Luzina completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Moira Hedberg and Chrissy Uriarte. In singles play, at No. 1, Vasilieva's 6-2, 6-0 win over Hedberg places her at a 20-1 start this season.This is the best start for a Cougar since 1983 when Erin Majury went 24-0 in dual matches. Vasilieva is now one win away from tying Marcia Senn's record of 13 straight wins in the 1993-94 season. At No. 2, Fournier defeated Patton 6-0, 6-1 while Luzina picked up her second victory of the day defeating Warner 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, extending her dual-match winning streak to 10 this season. Kankaras posted a straight-set win over Uriarte at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2. Koning earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Norena at No. 5 while Musilovich closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Ellingsen at No. 6. The Cougars return to Simmelink Courts Feb. 11 to face No. 48 Sacramento State at 4 p.m. WASHINGTON STATE TENNIS DOUBLES
