WSU Swimming Returns Home To Host Cal-State Northridge

Nov. 5, 2002

The Washington State University women's swim team hosts Cal-State Northridge for the first time in Cougar swimming history...the two teams will face off in two separate meets with relays Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. and the dual meet Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.

The Matadors will compete against the Cougars following CSUN's first dual meet of the season, which takes place Wednesday, Nov. 5 against Loyal Marymount...the Cougars come into the weekend with a 1-0 record in dual meets.

"Cal State has some good swimmers that should come up and push us in some events," WSU Head Coach Erica Quam said. "The meets also give us an opportunity to move people around. I don't have to put them in their number one events so they can get experience in other races."

LAST WEEK: WSU did not compete this past week after competing in the Pacific Invitational Oct. 25-26... the Cougars finished fourth in competition with many strong individual performances...Jane Copland captured third place in individual points with 71 points.. Jill Olson also contributed to the Cougars' score with two top ten finishes.

Copland, a native of Wellington, New Zealand captured first place in the 100 breaststroke...second place finishes in the 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.

Olson, a senior, added 22 points for the Cougs with two top 10 finishes...captured a position in the Cougar all-time top 10 with a fourth place finish in the 1650 freestyle... swam a season best in the 500 free giving her a 10th place finish.

COACH QUAM: Erica Quam has a dual meet record of 1-0 with the WSU women's swim team in her first year as head coach...Quam spent the past five years as an assistant at Southern Methodist University.

NEXT WEEK: Washington State competes next against Central Washington and Pepperdine in Ellensburg, Saturday Nov. 16 at 11 a.m..
