Cougars Head to the Desert in First Away Meets of the Season
WSU will race Arizona, Arizona State, and Grand Canyon.

THIS WEEK
WSU Swimming heads to Tucson and Tempe, Ariz., in its first road trip of the season...first time racing against Pac-12 opponent this season...Cougars take on Arizona at 2 p.m. at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center Oct. 26, 2012 and Arizona State and Grand Canyon at noon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center Oct. 27, 2012...first dual meet against Arizona in history of program.
COUGAR CATCH-UP
The season started off on a high note with WSU winning its first dual meet of the season against Seattle U, 179-83...Kelly Tannhauser was the top scorer of the meet with 27 individual points from winning 200 free, 200 back, and 400 IM...All WSU relays finished ahead of Seattle U relays in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
WSU LAST SEASON
The Cougars went 2-10 last season in dual meets competing against one of the strongest swimming conferences...team finished the season with 16 WSU all-time top-10 performances...Shelbi Luchini broke into the top three of the Cougar all-time-top-10 lists in the 200 and 400 IM...Kelly Tannhauser made the Cougar all-time-top-10 lists for three events last season in the 200 Backstroke, 200 IM and 400 IM...eight Cougar swimmers made it on the Cougar All-Time lists at Pac-12 Championships.
2012-13 OUTLOOK
The 18-member squad returns 12 letterwinners, including seniors Jenna Bekker, Evelina Bieleckaite, Kelsey Bruggman, and Shelbi Luchini...four seniors combined hold eight spots on the Cougar all-time top-10 lists...this year the Cougars welcome six freshmen to the team.
COACHING STAFF
Head coach Tom Jager enters his second year at Washington State after spending seven years coaching at Idaho...Jager is a six-time NCAA Champion, and a two-time Olympic gold medalist...Jager is joined by assistant coach Adriana Quirke...Quirke was Jager's assistant coach at Idaho for the past three seasons...rounding out the Cougar coaching staff is volunteer assistant coach Jessie Grow.
HIGHLIGHTING ARIZONA, ARIZONA STATE, AND GRAND CANYON
Arizona finished fifth at NCAA Championships to cap off its 2011-12 season...Arizona State took 12th place at NCAA Championships last season marking its highest finish since 2005...Grand Canyon finished fifth at NCAA Division II Championships improving from its 10th place finish the previous season.
