PULLMAN, Wash. - The Crimson defeated the Gray, 326-280 in the annual Washington State women's swim team intrasquad meet held Friday night at Gibb Pool.

Erin McCleave, a sophomore from Rutherglen, Australia, led the Crimson to the win by capturing victories in the 200 (1:55.27), 50 (24.79) and 100 freestyle (54.03). She also swam anchor on the winning 200 freestyle team.

Freshman Bryn Mooney from Caldwell, Idaho paced the Gray squad with victories in the 100 backstroke (59.79) and 100 butterfly (58.44). She was also a member of the winning team in the 200 and 400 medley relay races.

"Bryn Mooney stepped up for a second place finish (in total meet points)," WSU Head Coach Erica Quam said. "It was a good learning experience for all of our freshmen. They were able to see how quick a dual meet happens and how to prepare themselves in between events."

Other event winners included sophomores Monika Povilonyte (Klaipeda, Lithuania) in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.26) and Kayli Changstrom (Loveland, Colo.) in the 200 individual medley (2:12.14).

"Overall it was fun to see the sophomores demonstrate dramatic improvement," Quam said. "The goal for the team was to start better than last year and we achieved that. Our team is in good shape. We are where we need to be. We have more speed at the start than we have had in the past."

The Cougars open the regular season, Friday, Oct. 22 when they host San Jose State at 6 p.m.
