Nine Cougar Swimmers Garner Pac-10 Academic Honors
April 2, 2004 PULLMAN, Wash. - Seniors Theresa Dunn and Sasha Taylor, and sophomore Andrea Lubeck earned Pacific-10 Conference First Team All-Academic honors, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Thursday. WSU matches Stanford and USC with most first team honorees. Dunn has carried a 3.80 grade-point average and is pursuing a major in business administration and finance. The native of Morgan Hill, Calif., garnered two lifetime bests and one season best at the Pac-10 Championships. Dunn swam a 26.22 in the 50 fly and 59.27 in the 100 butterfly to grab lifetime bests. In the 100 back she swam a season best time. This is the third straight year Dunn as been named to the Pac-10 first team. Taylor, a native of Smith Falls, Ontario, complied a GPA of 3.71 while majoring in biology education. The co-captain recorded a 15th place finish at the Pac-10 Championships this season in the 200 backstroke. Taylor also swam season best times at the Pac-10 Championships in the 200 and 500 freestyles. Anchorage, Alaska native Lubeck maintains a 3.97 GPA and has not declared her major. She recorded four lifetime best times this season, two of which came at the Pac-10 Championships. Junior co-captain Lisa Irwin garnered all-academic second team honors for the second consecutive season. Sophomore Karen Eldred also grabbed second team honors. . Irwin, a team co-captain this season, maintains a GPA of 3.78 and is majoring in zoology. Eldred compiled a 3.85 GPA and is yet to declare a major. Other Cougar honorees include senior Nicole Chinn (Seattle), junior Sheena Mills (Calgary, Alberta), and sophomores Jane Copland (Wellington, New Zealand) and Lesley Ouellette (Ukiah, Calif.) who each earned honorable mention. To be eligible for the Pac-10 All-Academic team athletes must have a class standing of sophomore or older, have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant substitute.
