WSU Swimming Earns Pac-10 All-Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Washington State swim team had four student-athletes named to the 2007 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving All-Academic first team, it was announced Tuesday by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Three Cougars were named to the second team while three others earned honorable mention accolades.

Seniors Lindsay Backhouse (3.89 GPA, Human Nutrition and Foods), Erin McCleave (3.71 GPA, Biology) and Katie Van Horne (3.79, Medical Sciences) were each named to the first team and were joined by junior Danielle Berish (3.72 GPA, Communications). It is the third consecutive honor for Backhouse and Van Horne and marks the second straight award for McCleave. Berish, who earned second team honors in 2006, was named to the first team for the first time.

Kayli Changstrom, a senior Sport Management major, earned second team honors for the third straight year for her 3.63 grade point average. In addition, sophomore Jamie MacLeod (3.67 GPA, Microbiology) and Bryn Mooney (3.69 GPA, Undeclared) earned a spot on the second team. It was the first second team honor for MacLeod as well as Mooney, who earned first team honors in 2006.

Elyse Peterson, Afton Pickett and Monika Povilonyte rounded off WSU's Pac-10 All-Academic honorees, earning honorable mention recognition for their efforts in the classroom. It is the third straight honor for Povilonyte, a senior from Lithuania, and the first award for both Peterson and Pickett.
